WFH Happy Hours: It Isn’t Drinking Alone if It’s for Work
In our increasingly digital and remote working world, it can often feel like you’re silo’d alone in your office, your bedroom, the kitchen, or a coffee shop; taking orders from an automated task manager ran by some guy you barely know named Mike. We hate this style of “alone together” working environment so we like to bring some excitement back into our work lives with virtual happy hours.
Virtual happy hour? What do you take me for, a fool? No, not at all. You’re a smart boy, everyone says so.
Virtual happy hour games are loads of fun. At the beginning of every month, the 8AM team gathers round their respective laptops to throw a few back, catch up, and play some games.
Before we begin, would you care for a drink?
For a more spirited virtual happy hour experience, try one of our three coffee-based cocktails (and one mocktail). Watch our recipe demonstrations in the following video…
Virtual Happy Hour Ideas
Skribblio
Kinda like Pictionary but with MS Paint-style functionality. Great for the graphic designers on the team, not so great for literally everyone else. Still great fun, fairness issues aside. Unintentional humor is the best and people’s bad drawings have ended up as emojis on our internal chat server.
Some Maybe Weirder Virtual Happy Hour Ideas
Working from home has its blessings and its curses. Taking the time to connect with your colleagues and employers goes a long way. If these zoom happy hour games seem a little too complex, may we recommend some easy ice-breaker games.
Chopped: Happy Hour Drink Edition - Make a drink with what you have laying around your kitchen. Dr. Pepper martini? Strawberry Milk bloody mary? The world is your oyster.
Virtual Karaoke - After the first few Dr. Pepper’s martinis go down the gullet, break out the Virtual Karaoke. They have free and paid plans, and you know you want to sing Man in the Box to your computer while HR watches.
Tell New People Funny Stories About Things That Happened Before They Started - “Brett worked here for a while, turns out he was in the FBI the whole time. Terrible developer.”
Your options are endless. If you feel like your team is a little lonely, we suggest getting a virtual happy hour going to reinvigorate the squad.
